Ingredients · Nature meets advanced oral care
Odovyx™: our ingredient technology platform
Odovyx™ is where Petdentist® decides what goes into a product, and what never will: the rules for choosing ingredients, the dossier behind each one, and format-specific bases for future daily oral-care products for dogs, cats and horses. Nothing leaves it until it has passed every gate.
- Species-safety rules: applied across our current range today
- Odovyx™ products: in development
- Launch dates: none, until every gate is passed
What it is
A technology platform, not a promise
Odovyx™ is not a product you can buy, and it is not a claim. It is the technology behind future Petdentist® products: a library of qualified ingredients, the evidence and safety dossier for each, and the rules for combining them. What reaches you will always be a Petdentist® product, labelled with its species, its serving and its ingredients.
A mouth is a demanding place to work. A dog's saliva sits at around pH 7.5 to 8.5, more alkaline than ours, and each format meets the teeth differently. So we never assume that an ingredient which behaves well in a human toothpaste will behave the same way in a pet's mouth, let alone in a water bowl.
Pet parents
You will meet Odovyx™ on the label of future Petdentist® products, never as a promise on its own.
Veterinary professionals
Ask what is in a product and why. Our science team answers ingredient and safety questions from veterinary teams.
Suppliers and manufacturers
We qualify every supplier on identity, specification, contaminant limits, regulatory status and documentation.
Selection
How ingredients are chosen
Safety first
An ingredient needs an exact identity, a named supplier, a specification and contaminant limits before it is even considered. Seaweeds such as kelp are checked for iodine and heavy metals. If a safe serving cannot be set by body weight, it goes no further.
Species-specific
Dogs and cats are assessed separately, from ingredient choice to serving. A cat product is developed as a cat product, with cat evidence, never scaled down from a dog formula.
Format-specific
A powder in food, a paste on a brush, a chew and a water additive meet the mouth in different ways and for different lengths of time. Each format gets its own base, rather than one recipe forced into all of them.
Two further questions apply to everything. Is there evidence for this ingredient, in this species, graded with Biodontic™? And is it lawful for this use in every market we sell in?
Ingredients
What we work with, what we avoid, what we keep private
The families we work with
- Marine botanicals, such as the kelp Ascophyllum nodosum in our current kelp-based dental powder
- Food- and feed-grade minerals, chosen for how they behave in saliva
- Defined microbial preparations, live or heat-inactivated, each identified to strain level
- Prebiotic fibres, such as inulin
- Carriers and palatants, which decide whether a daily serving is eaten at all
What we never use
- Xylitol, in anything: it is toxic to dogs
- Onion and garlic
- Tea tree, clove and peppermint essential oils
- For cats: any essential oils or phenols, and high-iodine kelp
- Alcohol in routine oral-care products
- Unidentified microbial mixtures
- Medicinal-level actives: anything whose job is pharmacological belongs in a veterinary medicine, prescribed by a vet
What we do not publish
Formulations: exact proportions, supplier specifications and processing methods. They are confidential know-how, and a formula on its own says little about how a finished product performs.
What we do publish: the ingredients on every pack, the species and serving, the reasons behind our exclusions and, as studies are completed, what the evidence shows and what it does not.
In development
From idea to shelf: six gates
Every Odovyx™ development passes six stages, in order, and a no at any stage stops it. We publish no launch dates, because a date should never outrank a gate.
Research
An evidence dossier for each ingredient, built with Biodontic™: what is known, in which species, at what grade.
Safety review
Identity, purity and contaminant limits; suitability for each species; servings by body weight; known cautions, such as kelp and thyroid conditions.
Stability
Does the product stay exactly as labelled until its best-before date, including through UAE summer heat?
Pilot
Small pilot batches, then a structured acceptance and tolerance check in healthy pets, with owners' consent. It is never described as an efficacy trial.
Compliance gate
Classification confirmed for each market; every label and claim reviewed against UK VMD, UAE and local rules; registrations completed where required.
Launch
Release through Petdentist® Shop, with batch testing, traceability and complaint monitoring from day one, and product studies planned with Biodontic™.
The Petdentist Daily System
Where Odovyx™ fits the routine
Odovyx™ serves the first two steps of the five. Monitor and Professional Care stay with PetPulse Labs™, Petdentist CLINICS and, above all, your vet.
Step 1
Clean
What goes into the pastes and wipes that clean along the gumline every day.
Step 2
Support
What goes into the daily powder served over food, measured by body weight.
Standards and boundaries
The rules Odovyx™ works within
No efficacy claims
Odovyx™ is a technology name, not a promise. Claims appear only on finished products, in approved hygiene wording, after evidence and compliance review.
No borrowed evidence
Results for another company's ingredient, strain or product are never presented as evidence for ours, and results in people or dogs are never applied to cats.
Non-medicinal by design
Odovyx™ developments are oral-hygiene products and complementary feeds for healthy pets, never veterinary medicines.
Always alongside your vet
No ingredient replaces daily cleaning, a professional clean or a veterinary examination.
When to see your vet
If you notice loose or wobbly teeth, swelling, discharge, bleeding that does not settle, reluctance to eat, dropping food, drooling, pawing at the mouth or any change in behaviour, please contact your veterinary surgeon promptly. Home care supports professional care — it never replaces it.
Questions people ask
Frequently asked questions
What is Odovyx™?
Odovyx™ is Petdentist's ingredient technology platform: the rules we use to choose ingredients, the evidence and safety dossier behind each one, and the format-specific bases for future daily oral-care products. It is in development. Odovyx™ is a technology name rather than a product or a claim, and anything built on it will reach you as a Petdentist® product.
Can I buy Odovyx™ products yet?
Not yet. Odovyx™ developments reach Petdentist® Shop only after passing every stage gate, including safety, stability, a pilot and a compliance review for each market, and we do not publish launch dates. Register your interest and we will tell you when there is news. Our current range is available now through the UK and UAE stores.
Why don't you publish your formulations?
Because exact proportions, supplier specifications and processing methods are confidential know-how, and because a formula on its own says little about how a finished product performs. What we do publish is what matters for your pet: the ingredients on every pack, the species, the serving by body weight and the reasons behind our exclusions.
Which ingredients will Odovyx™ never use?
Xylitol, which is toxic to dogs; onion and garlic; tea tree, clove and peppermint essential oils; alcohol in routine oral-care products; unidentified microbial mixtures; and actives at the kind of level that belongs in a veterinary medicine. For cats we also exclude all essential oils, phenols and high-iodine kelp.
Will Odovyx™ developments be suitable for cats?
Only products developed, labelled and served for cats. Cats process some ingredients very differently from dogs, so a cat product is assessed as a cat product from the start, with cat-specific exclusions and servings. We never assume that results in dogs apply to cats, or that a dog formula can simply be scaled down.
Is there clinical evidence for Odovyx™?
Not for finished Odovyx™ products yet, which is why we make no efficacy claims for it. Ingredient choices are informed by published research, graded A to E with Biodontic™. Evidence for a finished product has to come from studies of that product, and results for another company's ingredient or strain are never presented as evidence for ours.
When will the first Odovyx™ product launch?
We do not give dates. A development moves forward only when it passes each gate, and a no at any gate stops it. Register your interest by email and we will tell you when a product is ready. In the meantime, the current Petdentist® range is available through our UK and UAE stores and marketplaces.
I supply ingredients or manufacture pet products. Can we work together?
Possibly. We qualify suppliers and manufacturers on exact ingredient identity, specifications, contaminant limits, regulatory status in each market and complete documentation, and we work under confidentiality agreements. Email [email protected] with Odovyx supplier in the subject line and a short description of your materials or capabilities.
